Take your pastels to the next level

This workshop will cover in depth the foundations and techniques of pastel painting.  Instruction and demos will include:

1. discussion on materials
2. in-depth study of composition, value studies. color temperatures and color harmony
3. How to select and work from a reference photo (importance of simplifying, massing, telling a story)
4. different methods and techniques of underpainting
5. step by step painting instruction with critiques
6. pitfalls and how to avoid them
7. discussion on what makes a successful painting

Supply List

Soft Pastels  a selection of any of the following (Rembrandt, Schmincke, Unison, Great American, Terry Ludwig, etc.), the more the better.

Sanded Paper: 9 x 12 or 11 x 14 or 12 x 16 of either UART 400, Wallis (at least 2 sheets)

Backboard: piece of foam core works well

small sketch pad

tracing paper

pencil – kneaded eraser

masking tape

small table to put pastels on

easel

Viva paper towels
