Painting plein air is one of my favorite things to do. Having to tackle painting nature, with all it’s challenges of light shifting, wind blowing, sun’s heat beating down, the threat of rain, gives me such a rush to conquer these elements, while making quick, spontaneous decisions of intention, color, and expression. And, like my golf game, some days I have it and some days I don’t. But, also like my golf game, I just keep coming back for more.
I love my pastels but sometimes it is nice for me to break out the oil paints. I keep 2 plein air kits all packed up and ready to go, one for each medium. This way, I can grab either one when the mood hits.
Here are 2 painting of the same subject, one in oil, one in pastel.
Can’t decide which one I like better.
