Last Wednesday, 2 of my art buddies, Barbara Jaenicke and Camille (Candy) Day and I met in Ellijay, GA, a quiet town in the GA mountains, about an hour north of where I live. It’s very scenic, very green, and a great place to go outside and paint (plein air.)
My intention was to concentrate on painting trees, since it is a big part of a commission I am in the process of painting in my studio. I wanted to get a good idea of the natural outdoor hues and values, shadows and light, to bring back to my studio painting.
We started painting at 8:30 AM on the property of Candy’s friend, Joanne, who owns an enormous amount of acreage, can’t remember how much she said, but it is a tremendous.
Here’s the 1st view behind her house.
2nd painting, finished up just prior to lunch.
After lunch we headed over to Cartecay Vineyards, a local winery, ….not to drink, just to paint. If I had a glass, I think that would have been the end of the painting day.
3rd painting. Up the Hill
Still tempted to stop in for a wine tasting but went back to Joanne’s place for the 4th painting, finally leaving Ellijay by 7:30 PM. A long, tiring, but very enjoyable day!
Since I had to spend the day at Kudzu Art Zone to Gallery sit for their Open Juried Exhibition on Friday, I painted this one from one of the reference photos I had taken there at Elijay.
